Sidetracked in Alaska

Obviously, we are not in Africa. With only a few days between trips, I have had to abandon my blog for 2 weeks while we traveled about Alaska. My niece, Kelsey, arranged for us to take a helicopter to the Mead Glacier. What an incredible ride with views of ice fields, fjords, and snow covered mountains as far as the eye can see.

We were lucky to have a beautiful day on our ferry ride from Whittier to Valdez where we saw mountains like this all day, along with sea otters, icebergs, and porpoises.

The best part of Skagway was the visit with my niece, Kelsey. We enjoyed having her all to ourselves for a couple of days.

This glacier (The Root Glacier out of McCarthy) didn't involve helicopters, but rather crampons and hiking with good friends, Mickey and Bob. Our guide, Danny, is from Santa Cruz!
