Record Lows

We woke up one morning to a white world.  Record lows were recorded for October; record lows, record low "highs", record snow.  Wood heat saved the day.
Harvest season has started, the corn is dry and ready.  Once it starts, farmers tend to work day and night (see below).  Our neighbor was also moving cattle from summer fields to winter grazing areas.  This has to be done even in record low temperatures and if they miss a few calves, they have to go back out again and look for them in creek bottoms and other hidden areas.

This looks like some kind of space alien but it is a farmer working at night.

It was too cold out to take long walks so it seemed like a good time to start a new book for my book art guild's exchange for November.  This will be a fabric book with painted canvas pages.

The printed fabrics are from a fabric stash given to me by my mother-in-law.  The music and photo are printed on fabric using an inkjet printer.  The book structure will be simple but I'm creating a fabric collage for each page.  Fun!

Finally, we head out to attend a wedding in Moab, Utah.  The country roads are clear of snow but the snowmelt has made the unpaved roads a slippery mess.  I was driving my BMW and I think I learned how to drive on this day.  It is really something to be steering one way and have the car head another way.  The fishtail I created on the road will entertain local farmers for a few days.  I managed to stay out of the ditch and Rollie (who was driving another car ahead of me) stopped the car to congratulate me on my excellent corrections.

Hmm.... I wonder if they do in NE what they do in Montreal. A friend of mine got her license there, but since it was summer, it was only a provisional. They made her come back in the winter and basically drive a course on ice, proving she could work the brakes and maneuver around obstacles. Yike! Glad to hear you didn't do worse than fishtail!
