My dear friend, Jerome, passed away February 9, 2009. He was one in a billion and a man for all ages. He was a kind and committed friend, husband, father, grandfather, and physician. As well as being an advocate for the environment, justice, and the arts, he was an avid hiker, bicyclist, and kayaker. The local newspapers will miss his frequent letters in support of various social and political issues. Jerome was also an life-long reader who gave books as gifts for all occasions. He wrote poetry almost every day and shared these with friends, family, and patients. These are two favorites (watercolor by his friend Sue):
Above Third Falls
Broken faced salmon
Above ferocious rapids
Resting; - not through yet.

Trinity River
Returning Home
Spent salmon linger
White spotted
In deep river holes
Job done
Going back
Into the earth
From whence
They came
As came you
As did I
And all other
Living beings
Not so bad
Enjoy
Returning to
Your home
