The struggle for dominance between my left and right brain almost did me in on this one. I had an urge to run out of the classroom. My left brain was looking for all sorts of escape routes; did I need to go to the bathroom, do they have coffee around here, was it too late to drop? The leaves were very complicated and of course, my mathematical brain is drawn to that and this does not work when trying to draw because I lose the essence of the image. However, once I picked up the pastel chalks and started to do the contours, my body relaxed and this image revealed itself. I was amazed and my wonderful, supportive art instructor (who was probably observing my frustration) was the first to pat me on the back. Clearly, I need to do more of these and work with the initial feelings of panic. Tonight we did polygonal solids and shading - no problem there!
