Chobe National Park, Botswana
Our camp is on the side of a hill with a view of the river. The first night is pretty adventurous with our friends, Rick and Sandy, visited by baboons. Neighbors on the other side have no water because elephants have crushed the water pipe. A mongoose family scurries about, antelope walk by and many elephants make their way to the river. At night we need guides to escort us to our cabins. One morning I startled neighbors with hearty screams; I had just stepped into the shower when I looked down and there was a frantic black creature trying to get out of the shower pan, right next to my feet. When I put my glasses on I could see that it was just a gecko and I'm sure it was much more frightened that I was. Women came from a local village to sell their baskets.
